Trương Tân
Born in Hanoi in 1963, Truong Tan is considered one of Vietnam’s most innovative and daring artists. Known for his experimental paintings, ceramics, installations and performances, Tan has always moved freely between mediums. Moving from his early autobiographical work, Tan’s current practice (often times incredibly labour intensive) ponders grand themes of love, courage, prejudice and conflict.
Truong Tan has participated in numerous international exhibitions over the last three decades. His works have been shown at prestigious institutions such as Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA; Gallery 4A, Sydney, Australia; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, Germany; ifa Gallery, Berlin and Stuttgart, Germany; Stenersen Museum, Oslo, Norway; Singapore Art Museum, Singapore; Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan; and Asia Society, Hong Kong. Tan has performed at Liverpool Biennale, UK; Container 96, Copenhagen, Denmark; Städelschule, Frankfurt, Germany; Saigon Open City, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and at numerous other locales. Tan’s works are in major collections around the world including Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA; Singapore Art Museum; and Post Vidai Collection, Geneva, Switzerland and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Truong Tan lives and works in Hanoi and Paris.
